Some of our Year 7 pupils have recently returned from their return exchange trip to our German partner school, the Albert-Einstein-Schule in Hannover. Staying in pairs with host families, the children experienced typical German school days, afternoon sports clubs such as handball and football and evening activities including bowling and ice-skating, shopping and eating at Christmas markets, a tour of a medieval castle in the historic town of Celle, and more. They even managed to feature in the Hannoversche Allgemeine, the newspaper of Lower Saxony...The children found the differences between the German school and Terra Nova extremely interesting; AES seemed enormous with its 1800 pupils, and the Terra Nova pupils really enjoyed the novelty of no school uniforms and catching the tram to school!
In addition to practising their German language skills, the children developed firm friendships with their hosts, some of whom had already visited Terra Nova in October, and they learnt a great deal about the German way of life. We are very much looking forward to continuing this partnership in the future and are very grateful to our colleagues at the Albert-Einstein-Schule for such a wonderful, fun and inspiring three days.
Finally, we would sincerely like to thank the UK-German connection for providing financial support of this exchange.
